SNP – Networked ID scanners postponed

SNOSAs most of you would be aware, the proposed introduction of mandatory ID scanning for certain premises within safe night precincts was due to occur by 6 September 2015.

The Honourable Yvette D’Ath, Attorney-General, Minister for Justice and Minister for Training and Skills has recently confirmed that the Executive Council approved the postponement of this roll out for a period up to 12 months.

The State Government will now use this 12 month period to assess if ID scanners will be an appropriate and cost-effective mechanism to support the enforcement of patron bans.

The most important thing to all note is that regulated premises are no longer required to install their ID scanner by 6 September 2015.
